This type of packing is widely used in absorption and distillation columns and chemical reactors; due to its large surface area, low pressure drop and uniform fluids, heat and mass transfer efficiency.

Metal tower packings are assembled by rolling small profile and bellows in metallic sheet surface. These offer a number of advantages including low resistance, uniform gas-liquid distribution, high efficiency and big flux, with no observed effect of enlarging. Therefore, this kind of packing is used in operations involving vacuum or pressure.
